About the Scholarship

The GKNF-USA Scientific Scholarship is awarded annually through the national competition. The primary purpose of this award is to support future Korean nursing leaders for the development of nursing and clinical sciences. Up to $2,000 will be given to meritorious PhD and/or DNP projects.

SPRING CYCLE

Application deadline: April 1, 2026

Notification: June 1, 2026

FALL CYCLE 

Application deadline: October 1, 2026

Notification: December 1, 2026

Eligibility 

  • Active student member of the GKNF-USA at the time of application. 
  • Currently enrolled in a nursing Ph.D. or DNP program in the USA, and
  • Evidence that applicants have received approval for a proposal for a dissertation or capstone, or equivalent project.

Submission Guideline

An application must be completed and submitted to GKNF (GKNFUSA@gmail.com) by April 1, 2026 (Spring Cycle) or October 1, 2026 (Fall Cycle). All application materials should be organized into one PDF file, and electronic submissions are the only accepted format. The PDF file should include the following the GKNF scholarship application, CV or biosketch, transcript, proposal, budget justification, and two letters of recommendation.

2. CV – NIH biosketch or CV up to 4 pages

3. Transcript of Ph.D./DNP program

4. Dissertation or capstone proposal or equivalent project proposal: The proposal should have consisted of title, abstract, description of the proposal, and references.

  • An abstract should not exceed 2,000 characters with space.
  • The proposal should be structured, including Specific aims/objectives,Innovation, Approach (study design, sample and site, measures, data collection/procedure, plan for data analysis, and timeline). The proposal should be within 3 pages, excluding references and abstract. The proposal should be typed in 11-point Arial font with single spacing and one-inch margins on all page sides.

5. The budget justification for dissertation/capstone proposal: Please itemize anticipated expenditures to conduct the proposed research. A maximum of up to a total of $2,000 can be requested. Please indicate whether other funds have been applied or obtained to support the proposed research/project.

Budget Notes:

1. Items not allowed: computers (hardware, laptops, and desktops), office supplies, and food.

2. Funding may be used for personnel support and cost associated with generating/purchasing data sets.

3. Request for funding for travel and or supplies must be directly related to the research project.

6. Two recommendation letters: Letters of recommendation should come from those who can speak to the applicant’s professional and scholastic abilities. It is strongly preferred that letters of recommendation come from the applicant’s advisor, dissertation chair, or other professionals with a graduate degree. One must come from the Chair of the Dissertation Committee with confirmation on approval of the dissertation proposal. The submitted materials are reviewed by the GKNF-USA Scholarship Committee. The award decision is primarily based on the applicant’s academic, scientific promise of the proposal, budget justification, and potential for contribution to nursing.

Post-Award Requirement

The awardee is expected to attend and present relevant clinical and professional activities at the GKNF conference in the future.
